Introducing “Happy Rants” in which Stephen Altrogge and I Rant in a Non-Angry Way

Bill O’Reilly rants. Rush Limbaugh rants. Bill Maher rants. And all of them, as Stephen Altrogge put it, are like “listening to a headache.” I blog with Stephen over at The Blazing Center, and we occasionally engage in twitter banter of most varied and sundry order. Well, we’ve decided something must be done to counteract all this angry, pretentious ranting. And what better way to do so that by fighting fire with fire?

Thus, we introduce “Happy Rants”, a video conversation in which we bounce from topic to topic and rant briefly, but without ire. In this introductory episode we touch on the following:

  • The Olympics and our favorite (or not favorite) aspects of it
  • The best Rocky movies
  • Johnny Manziel’s future in the NFL and my man crush on him
  • The recent internet brouhaha over Donald Miller’s church attendance
  • Little known Trivia about John Piper and Mark Altrogge

Haha… amusing. I must say, though, that Indiana, Pennsylvania is famous for being the hometown of my favorite actor, Jimmy Stewart. Otherwise I never would have heard of it before.

On the subject of church attendance, I think that American church culture places way too much emphasis on Sunday mornings. I think corporate worship as well as fellowship is important, but it can look different for different people, especially for someone who is an extreme introvert (like me.) The occasional Sunday morning at home alone can be spiritually beneficial, and fellowship can take the form of Bible studies, small groups, or just time with family. Sure I think we should make every effort to have a regular corporate worship time as well, but not to the point that it becomes some kind of idol. So basically I’m saying my response to the “brouhaha” in general was, “hmm… meh.”

I pretty much agree with “meh”, but of course I respond that way over most social media brouhahas.
